Questions

Common questions

No — this tool provides general legal information structured around NZ law, not legal advice tailored to your circumstances, and using it does not create a solicitor-client relationship. What you receive is a professionally structured draft generated from the answers you give. You are responsible for checking that it is accurate and complete, and we recommend a lawyer review it before you send or file it — especially for higher-stakes matters. The legal review add-on, provided by Gordian Legal, does exactly that.
Yes. The letters are designed as formal letters before action — the standard first step before Disputes Tribunal or court proceedings. They demonstrate that you attempted resolution before escalating, which tribunals and courts look favourably on. Statutory notices, if properly served, create the legal prerequisites for further action under the relevant Act.
Your letter will explain the next steps available to you if there is no response. For most disputes, the next step is the Disputes Tribunal (which hears claims up to $30,000, or up to $60,000 if both parties agree), or the District Court for larger claims. For statutory notices, non-compliance triggers specific legal consequences — for example, a statutory demand that is not responded to allows you to apply to liquidate the debtor company.
Immediately after payment, your letter is available to download from the confirmation page. It is formatted for printing and can be saved as a PDF directly from your browser. You can re-download it for 48 hours from the confirmation link. We also email a copy to the address you provide.
